COATING SELECTION AND SURFACE PREPARATION

Consult the relevant technical data sheet for full information. This range of products has been formulated for application under a wide range of atmospheric conditions. However, service life may be impaired if coatings, especially decorative finishes, are applied in damp or humid conditions. Coatings should not be applied during frost.

Poor surface preparation may reduce service life. We recommend steel surfaces should be shot blasted to Swedish Standard SA2.5 and thoroughly cleaned with X91 solvent cleaner. For other surface rust, scale and loose material should be removed by wire brush down to a sound surface. Any incompatible coating must be completely removed.

PRIMERS FOR STEEL BOATS
Fast Drying Red Oxide Primer High Performance Five Star Primer Konvertex Rust Inhibiting Primer
A zinc phosphate fast drying, high bond strength primer suitable for coating internal and external sections of cabin sides and tops. It is suitable for use with most traditional paint finishes. A high quality, zinc phosphate superior primer for use where maximum corrosion resistance is required. It is suitable for use under alkyd-urethanes and traditional coatings. Five Star Primer can be used as a two coat system for internal hull sections where no finish coat is to be applied and high corrosion resistance is required. This easy to use water based primer converts rust into a sound base for further applications of paint. The easy way to solve rust problems. Konvertex is water based and must be protected from frost. Suitable for use with all Wailes Dove water craft coatings, with the exception of Epimastic. Do not use at low temperatures or when rain/condensation is expected.

Drying Time: Overcoat after 1 hour

Touch Dry: 1 hour. Recoat after 2 hours
Colour: Grey, when applied darkens as it keys onto base.
